Awesome Virtual Piano Experience Online in the New Cool Game Magic Tiles 3!

Music games tend to go in and out of style. In the last gaming of generation, these games were indelibly linked with oversized peripherals, something that helped to hasten the end of the genre. Music games never really left the browser community, though, as most of these games required nothing more than a keyboard, mouse, and timing to complete. Magic Tiles 3 is definitely part of that larger browser-based music genre, albeit with a slightly different control scheme that makes it feel like a much different game.

Magic Tiles 3 lies somewhere between a tapping game and a music game. On one hand, it’s certainly a game about music. It makes use of several different tracks to provide the player with an excellent listening experience. On the other, it’s largely a game about reflexes. Moving your mouse and clicking quickly is a must, as the song will completely end the second you miss a note. It’s definitely a bit more punishing than most music games, even in a genre that’s well-known for pushing players past their normal limits.

On the plus side, the music is very well done in this game. The songs are all familiar, so you won’t be running through tracks that don’t suit your fancy. Everything is put together fairly well, though there could probably stand to be one or two more polish passes on the game. You won’t be overly annoyed by anything in the presentation, and the tracks do tend to build on one another. By the time you are done, you will feel like you have mastered the mechanics of the free game Magic Tiles 3.

There are some negatives about this game, though. For one, it’s unforgiving. Miss a note and you’re done – there’s not the usual music game mechanic of trying to get a good percentage. This can be incredibly frustrating if it takes you most of a song to fail, as you’ll have to start over again from the beginning. This is compounded by the fact that the controls are somewhat imprecise. The┬áMagic Tiles 3 game definitely feels like it would be better if it used the keyboard for each individual note.

Magic Tiles 3 is a decent music game. It isn’t perfect and it will certainly drive you crazy. When you do well, though, you’ll feel like you’ve accomplished something. When it comes to games in this genre, that’s definitely all that you can ask. You can download this game from the App Store and Google Play!
